Network of African

Social Enterprises (NASE)

NASE

A voice of all of Africa’s social enterprise networks

The Network of Africa's Social Enterprises (NASE) is a pan-African network of social enterprise coordinating bodies in different African countries. Hence, the network will comprise independent national umbrella bodies of social enterprises rather than individual social enterprises.

Introduction

Africa continues to face a myriad of social problems attributed to increased population, climate change, poor leadership and unfavourable policies, among others. For a long time, the continent has depended on external help to solve its problems. However, today, social enterprises are emerging to
provide Africa’s solutions to African problems. In many African countries today, social enterprises can be found in almost every sector, including health, education, and even agriculture. The social enterprises are evidences of how the Africans are drivers of their destinies.

These social enterprises have formed a national network that brings together the social enterprises in each country. Unfortunately, there is no interconnection between the various national networks. Each country operates individually and locally. This denies the African continent the much-needed voice and strength in the international arena. The various networks operating independently are not taking advantage of the lessons they could learn from each other and the benefits they could accrue from sharing a common platform if they created a pan-African network.

This is the clear call that has led various networks of social enterprises to form the Network of Africa’s Social Enterprises (NASE). This pan-African network of African social enterprises is expected to be the voice of all of Africa’s social enterprise networks. Through this network, Africa will no longer be relegated to the periphery in the deliberations, discourses and debates that have implications for the African people. The Network of Africa’s Social Enterprises will bring together all social enterprises through their national consortiums on one round table where decisions affecting the present and future of Africa will be made.
