Tangaza University is a Catholic University jointly owned by the member religious congregations. It has its roots in Catholic Tradition, especially as planted and nourished in East Africa (the AMECEA region) through the missionary endeavors which spanned the late 19th and entire 20th centuries.
The Institute for Social Transformation (IST) was founded in 1994 by Fr. Francesco Pierli, a Comboni missionary. The Comboni Missionaries was founded in 1867 by Daniel Comboni who strongly believed in the regeneration of Africa by Africans, and spent most of his life empowering communities around the continent.
