The 7th Annual Africa Conference on Social Entrepreneurship (AACOSE7) kicked off with a powerful and inspiring opening day, setting the tone for the transformative discussions and activities that would follow over the next three days.
The conference began with a series of compelling keynote speeches from some of the thought leaders in the field of social entrepreneurship. Br. Dr. Jonas Yawovi Dzinekou, Director of the Institute for Social Transformation, opened the session by emphasizing the critical role of social entrepreneurship in addressing Africa’s socio-economic challenges. Rev. Prof. Patrick Mwania, Vice Chancellor of Tangaza University, wrapped up the keynote session by reiterating the university’s commitment to fostering ethical leadership and social transformation.
The first high-level panel discussion of AACOSE7 focused on the crucial topic of human capital development. This session brought together leading voices to discuss strategies for shaping the future of human capital in Africa. The discussion featured two showcases: Wambui Nganga from Soma Siri, Kenya, and Dr. Zipporah MBA, Coordinator of Social Entrepreneurship & Sustainability, who shared their innovative approaches to education and workforce development.
The panelists, including Mr. Mike Korir of Verb Education Ltd., Mr. Owen Muzambi from Gold Youth, South Africa, Ruth Yohannes from Social Enterprise Ethiopia, Dr. Neolina Kirabo of Kyusa, Jane Thiong’o of Alive & Kicking Zambia and the moderator, Dr. Evelyne Jepkemei of Education org engaged in a vibrant dialogue. They explored the intersection of education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, highlighting successful models and identifying areas for further innovation and investment. This panel underscored the importance of equipping Africa's youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive social and economic progress.

The first day of AACOSE7 concluded with inspiring closing remarks from Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Vice Chancellor of Strathmore University. Dr. Ogutu’s address encapsulated the spirit of the conference and the unwavering determination of social entrepreneurs.
